“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.” Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
Sky Dancers
We live in our earthly skin,
You, Me and Your Dad
Our spirits close to the surface
More than most.
We are sky dancers, yearning to be free
Unencumbered by the pull of daily living,
Snagged by the entwined lives of others.
You once said you wanted to live in the sky
It is the perfect place, cushioned by soft silence
Floating in the wind, drifting above it all
It is where you rest and gather light
For your return to moving forward.
Your Dad floated from the sky
To earth, light as a feather
I could see that when he was a toddler
Curling his toes away from
Prickly blades of grass
As if he yearned to rise again.
He soared to heights, sometimes
Blocking the sun to cool those who could not fly.
I want to burst through this life
As pure energy, freeing my spirit
From the daily washing of rice
And the stirring of oatmeal,
Taming my spirit to remain in this vessel.
We are sky dancers
Temporarily grounded
In our earthly skin.
