Senryu / haiku

I composed the first 3 Senryu below while driving to work down H-2 and over Kīpapa Gulch Bridge.  And yes there is usually a speed trap before the Costco off ramp.  The Senryu relate to what I see of the houseless.

Racing one’s shadow

Across Kipapa Gulch Bridge

Morning Sun smiles.

Racing my shadow

But down the road at the curve

I then move ahead.

‘Rounding the corner

We pause our pace to honor,

Speed trap ahead.

eyk 5/28/26

In left turn lane

Houseless man whose eyes question

Each passing car.

eye 6/15/26

Gap toothed smile

Sun burnt skin with bare midriff

Parking lot his home.

eyk 4/6/26

Broken umbrellas

Cast aside in playground

Where homeless reside.
