KITES INTO THE SKY
As I remove my blanket and cling to you under hot skies,
I hear music float under the trees singing pages of words.
I can feel the swell of the ocean at high tide in my heart.
Then, you brush my body away.
I whisper near your ear, “Do you know my name? It’s Isabelle.”
and you don’t reply.
You have no reasons for me
as the salty breezes follow you into our bedroom.
I’m reaching for you, but you do not see
the years of patience and sadness hoping you’ll love me.
I dream of trade winds while suffocating in vog.
Please pretend for me.
Come hide behind the mask with me.
Let’s run outside with our children.
Children sent into the world like kites into the sky.
