Da Kine Education

At first, I’d sit in and listen to braddahs talking story at feedings in Kapiolani Park. This was before the governor asked shelters not to feed homeless people in public. I hardly understood anyone, but I was interested. Confused, but interested. I wanted to hang.

Like I knew da kine was important because everybody was mentioning it in every damn sentence. Of course I was too embarrassed to ask, so I went to the public library and read a pidgin dictionary. It turns out da kine means whatever you want it to mean. Well, that’s just da kine with me.
