Pink Mochi Girl, Big Dreams – 176 words

Pink Mochi Girl,

looking out of her bedroom window.

Down towards

Moody,rainy Hilo Bay.

Always raining, nevah see sunshine fo’ days….

Just broke up with her boyfriend,

Da one dey call Big Green Eye, Motorcycle Kid.

Two years dey went steady.

Walking past  Robert’s Bakery,

After school, every day, holding hands.

Admiring da wedding cakes.

Looking into Big Green Eyes eyes, silently speaking.

Dat’s going be us,

Pink Mochi Girl and Green Eye Motorcyle Kid

One day.

On top dat big cake.

Standing proud

I like da biggest one.

Ten stories high.

Mo high den yagura tower on bon dance night.

Mo high den Naniloa Hotel.

Dey going throw plenty rice at us.

Going bring good luck.

Big dreams.

Pink Mochi Girl,

Just broke up with her boyfriend.

Da one dey call Big Green Eye.

Two years dey went steady.

Mrs. Shimabukuro,  Pink Mochi Girl’s piano teacher,

Read the letter.

Drafted into the Vietnam War, 1965.

No one there is alive.

Sad day, in moody, rainy Hilo Bay.

Always raining, nevah see sunshine for’ days…
