3. ALOHA SHORTS November Taping: DA BODY + Collection for IHS

ALOHA SHORTS incorporates BAMBOO RIDGE poetry and prose into a program on the theme of “Our Bodies Ourselves." This next live taping occurs on Sunday, November 7, in Hawaii Public Radio's Atherton Studio. House band Hamajang kicks off the evening with its first musical set at 6:45 pm.

Admission is FREE, but reservations are REQUIRED. Call HPR at 955-8821 during station's business hours. (Reservations held till 6:55 pm only.)

Various body parts will be examined in:

• “Tongue” and “Shower” by Juliet S. Kono, read by Kat Koshi

• “Making Peace with my Eggs” by Robin Lim and “The Waters of My Body” by Juliet S. Kono, read by Ann Brandman

• “Missing Pieces” by Robert Pennybacker, read by Walter Eccles and Devon Nekoba

• “My Breathing” by Sue Cowing and “Rockhead” by Nora Okja Keller, read by Paris Priore Kim

• “Like Love” by Laurie Kuribayashi and “Crack Seed” by Kathy Phillips, read by Cheryl Bartlett

• “Obsession” by Laurie Kuribayashi and “Garbage” by A.T. Inoshita, read by Denise-Aiko Chinen

Audience members are also encouraged to join Aloha Shorts' pre-holiday food and clothing drive on November 7th. Our donations will go to the Institute for Human Services, which serves over 2800 of Hawaiʻi's homeless and provides more than 255,000 meals every year. Please bring to the Nov. 7th taping any of these items and help IHS TAKE CARE DA BODY:

4. The 108th annual conference of the Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association will be held November 13 and 14, 2010 at Chaminade University. It will feature more than 100 sessions on topics relating to the teaching and study of language, literature, and culture. 6. ALU LIKE's 3rd Annual Kauikeaouli Literacy Fair, a festival to honor Kamehameha III and his vision for a literate nation, will take place on Saturday, November 20, 2010, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 458 Keawe Street. Call 535-1354 for information, and visit the BRP book table.
