I used the theme #3: Small Kid Time. The word count is 100. As a high school student, I'm starting to feel the adult pressures and responsibilities. It makes me miss being a kid.

"We climbed up my Auntys plumeria tree and acted like monkeys, drank coca-cola bottles on top of my roof top, and when my mom wasn’t home we even made my own secret recipes in the kitchen." Word Count – 100

Maybe there’s a better way to look at this. Marissa is social, she’s inclusive, she wants to make contact, she’d like to get to know me better, she’s nervous and vocalizes instead of falling silent or biting her nails.

In a recent conversation with fellow Bamboo Shoots writer 'BetweenWatersUnseen' I joked that my next submission would be a play, with 100 words of straight dialogue. This is what came out.

Hanako means “Flower Child”. Upon entering school at 5, my mother was given the name “Hilda” a name of German origin meaning “battle” or “battle maiden”. This was the general practice of the territorial education system to help assimilate the children of the Issei. The house burning occurred during one of the plantation strikes in the early 1920's. This reflects both the "small kid time" and "growing old" themes. 203 words.
