Grandpa is an Astronaut

Everyone is at the Grandma’s house,
Eating sushi on paper plates,
Telling stories about Grandpa.

Grandpa is really skinny now
And never pinches my cheeks anymore.
"Are you chewing gum?" he’d say.

He’s in bed next to his favorite recliner,
People sit with him and cry.

Grandpa stares at the ceiling with his tubes,
I think he’s an astronaut dreaming of outer space.

When Mommy gets home that night,
She drops her purse on the ground and sits on her bed.
She cries so loud I feel the house shake
And I know then that Grandpa has gone to space.
