Totality

From the Keauhou Beach Hotel, we walk north to an unnamed shoreline and, knee-deep in the salty water, bear witness together. The birds fall quiet, the water and air shimmer silvery-cool. The shadowed face of the moon steals over the fiery face of the sun as you squint through a square of dark film, your arm around me. Take it out! I cry. Look! You do, then sob as our tears flood forth. Faces together, we embrace for time out of time. Then the sun slides from the shadowed moon in renewed radiance as the world bestirs itself once again.
