It was a week after her parents had separated. Her mom took her and her siblings to see their father. Each child took their turn leaving the car to hug and kiss their dad. First, her older sister. Then, her older brother. She sat in the car waiting for the sight of her brother's face turn the corner. As he came down the stairs she leapt out of the car and asked her brother what'd their dad say. He said " Dad said he can't see you right now, you remind him too much of mom."
I didn't get the chance to tell you how good I thought this was. You said a lot in a few—and that takes skill.
