The end of the carnival

The summer of Magic Island
Ferris wheel and rollercoaster
Loud laughter and faster lights
Fading after closing time
Standing in the growing quiet
Waiting by the dark roadside
Tired and watching
For my ride
Wondering when
I may be retrieved
Sometime soon I hope
Under this night’s moon
Would be good
The lightening crowd
The midway silence
I am one of the few
Unclaimed children
A surprised orphan
To be
Not quite set
To go life alone
From here on
