Colorless Skies

The old man squinted to see the sun
as he looked out onto the horizon.
But all he saw was gray.

The gray covered the sunlight from the world
shadowed it, so the flowers died
and the animals turned white.

The old man remembered a happier time
when Mother Nature thrived.
But then he watched with torment and sorrow
as men fought for a morsel of food.
Painfully reminded of reality.

The old man closed his eyes
and for the first time in decades, smiled.
And then he entered his paradise
as he blissfully walked
into the light once more.
