Cinderella Shoes

Cinderella Shoes

My wife discarded
Some of her shoes today
She gave to me the task
Of stowing them away
Carefully,
In a small square box,
A donation
To some other woman’s dreams.

I recall now
As,
I pick up a pair,
The excitement she felt when
She discovered their flair
And still another
I remember back then,
Were a perfect match for
A now long forgotten dress.

It’s a little sad how,
To sort through her shoes.
Is like looking at hopes
Or dreams unused.
And so I sigh-
But then pause
As I smile anew
There’s still more shoes
In that shuttered closet
And somewhere there,
If I look hard enough
Remain,
Cinderella’s Shoes.
